These Vegan Mashed Potatoes are a dairy-free version of the classic side dish. Creamy, fluffy, and super easy, made with pantry ingredients, no vegan butter needed!
If you’re just starting your vegan journey, and you’re worried you will have to give up comfort food, worry no more! With vegan products widely available in grocery stores, you can make fluffy and creamy mashed potatoes without butter and milk.
My favorite part about these mashed potatoes is that they’re creamy, smooth, fluffy, and so easy to make!
Ingredients:
- potatoes: I used Russet potatoes
- plant-based milk: I used unsweetened almond milk. but oat or soy works too
- oil: I used olive oil, but avocado oil works great too
- garlic, optional
- dried dill, optional
- salt and pepper
How to make vegan mashed potatoes?
- Peel potatoes.
- Chop into the same size pieces, about 1″ chunks.
- Place in a large pot and fill with water just to cover the potatoes.
- Bring to a boil and cook until soft, about 15 minutes.
- Drain potatoes.
- Add milk and olive oil.
- Mash to desired consistency.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- If adding garlic, use fresh, minced or saute in oil until golden for more mellow, sweet flavor.
- Garnish with dill before serving.
What can I use as a substitute for milk in mashed potatoes?
Any non-dairy, nut milk works. I use unsweetened almond milk. Coconut milk is also a great option.
Storing:
Any leftovers should be stored in a container with lid in the fridge, for up to four days.

- 1/2 tsp dill
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
